Dear Dr. Rowley,
I read with interest your editorial in the October 29 issue of Chemical and Engineering News.
While I was interested in the subject of fire safety and the use of various flame-retardant chemicals, I was much more interested in the fact that you were addressing real chemical problems, rather than engaging in some philosophical/political discourse.
It is a relief to read in a scientific magazine something which is unrelated to the usual claptrap which I've had to contend with for several years from Rudy Baum, in which he continued to pound for big government, increased use of taxpayer funds for insignificant political university research, and the continued promotion of global warming theory.
I hope your editorial is a forerunner of a new policy of addressing basic science and engineering problems in a true practical manner.
